Just Finished Tomb Raider 2013 and it was Totally Amazing
Jun 28, 2015
I just finished playing the 2013 release of Tomb Raider and it was totally amazing! But that's no surprise since it gets 9.1 (Amazing) on IGN. As far as third person adventure games go I really liked Tomb Raider. Recently I played through the first three Uncharted games, as well as The Last Of Us (all of which I extremely enjoyed), and I would say that Tomb Raider totally holds its own in comparison. All these games have similar combat mechanics, but Tomb Raider just feels silky smooth. Targeting and dodging in combat have an excellent pace. Melee combat is dynamic and gets better and better as you upgrade your hunting skills. Combat, exploring, and cutscene transitions are seamless and Lara's interaction with the environment is completely dynamic. As Lara Croft climbs, swims, squeezes, and explores the ancient island ruins of Yamatai she must fight to stay alive, hunt for her survival, and do everything she can to save her friends. This game is jam packed with unique situations and I felt that it had very little repetitive gameplay.
From the archery to the story line I thought this game was excellent. The story is pretty original and definitely engaging. The gameplay was great and the graphics and scenery were outstanding. The first few hours are pretty brutal as you have to play through Lara constantly getting stabbed, beat up, and falling from unreasonable heights. She always bounces back though. Dang that girl is tough!
Each event is more epic than the last – whether you are climbing high into the sky on a rusty old radio tower or unintentionally base jumping out of a wrecked plane hurling down snow covered mountains. In addition to combat and climbing this game has puzzles, and let me say that the puzzles were perfect. They were challenging and I only once had to consult the internet for a walkthrough. Finally I like the skill level up and gear upgrade systems. You get totally awesome weapons and gear and this constantly gave me a sense of accomplishment. Besides, gadget upgrades make any game super fun.
I could rave about this new Tomb Raider reboot by Crystal Dynamics all day. So like 5 alien thumbs up on this one! I had a blast and I highly recommend a play through to anyone who likes a good 3rd person adventure.
